Story
My mom, Tammy was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2023 (https://www.theaftd.org) and has been able to live completely independently until this spring. Her latest neurology visit resulted in her driver's license being revoked, and we had to take her car keys away. This has been devastating, to say the least, as she takes a lot of pride in her independence, and she is only 67 years old! The burden of organizing her care and the logistics of her daily life have fallen solely on my shoulders. Luckily, I live in the same neighborhood and can get her to where she needs to go for the most part. With summer now here and having to juggle my full-time job along with my kids' busy schedules, ages 10 and 12, things are becoming increasingly difficult to manage. In an effort not only to get my mom to her work out classes each day but also to show her how many people she has in her life, I started this page. She feels very isolated by losing her license, and also can't recall many of her friends' names. Her dementia is progressing rapidly, so please do not take offense if she does not remember you at first. It will bring her so much joy to hear from her friends and to see your familiar faces.
