Will's Warriors

Indianapolis, IN

Story

Their family was just like yours, and in one minute it all changed. Will was at swim practice on October 8th when he was suddenly unable to put pressure on his leg to walk. His mother, Stacy, a veteran nurse, knew that something was wrong with her son and headed to Riley Children’s Hospital for evaluation. Only hours later would she hear the fateful words, your child has cancer. Will has been diagnosed with bone cancer and is currently undergoing tests to determine the staging, tumor type, and treatment plan. We do know that this will be a long, hard battle, and the DesJean family needs as much support as possible. We have gathered ideas and suggestions on ways that family, friends, co-workers, and the community can support the DesJean family during this time.

Special Notes

Please do not contact Chris or Stacy directly to ask how you can help. While they feel blessed by the signs of support, their main focus is on Will and his care plan. For information on how you can help, please contact Amy Johnson, Sarah Smith, or Mandy Stevenson. We are serving as the points of contact for the DesJean family, so they can focus on taking care of Will and their family. Please also remember that Ella and Claire are also dealing with this major life change. Rather than asking them for constant updates, please visit this site, where you can find information on how Will is doing and ways to help the family. We are asking for your support and love, and also your understanding that this family is in the fight of their lives and needs time to process, heal, and spend time together.
