Story
If you’re receiving this Meal Train link, it means you’re a very special part of Stephanie Skrede (and her family’s) circle of love and support. UPDATE to Stephanie’s Recovery Journey: When Stephanie first prepared for surgery, she told herself it would be a 6-week recovery—even though her medical team advised that it would take closer to 12 weeks. Like so many strong-willed fighters, she hoped sheer determination would get her through faster. Recently, though, Stephanie and her care team had to have an honest talk about what pushing too hard could mean for her healing. She’s just been taken off blood thinners, which makes it especially important that she avoids any activity that could raise her blood pressure or heart rate. That means no exercise, no strenuous activity, and as little stress as possible. She’s permitted slow walks around the block, but even those are approached with caution. On top of this, she’s developed an incisional hernia and a minor infection, both of which are being monitored carefully to ensure prompt and proper treatment. Stephanie continues to sleep and sit in the “beach chair” position, which adds additional challenges to her mobility and day-to-day comfort. Because of this, we are extending the meal calendar—thank you for your continued flexibility and kindness. What’s Next? • ✅ Finish this 12-week recovery phase • 🏥 Undergo Phase 2 surgery • 🕰 Complete an additional 6-week recovery • 🙏 With luck, this will be the final phase, though some patients do require a Phase 3 Can we sign up for more than one meal? Yes, please do. Many people have asked, and the answer is a heartfelt yes—your help is deeply appreciated and gives Stephanie one less thing to worry about as she navigates this challenging path. This process is testing her in every possible way, but your support is helping carry her through. Thank you for walking beside her. 💛 Previously posted: In November 2023, Stephanie was diagnosed with breast cancer—a journey that included 12 rounds of chemo, 24 rounds of immunotherapy, and a double mastectomy. And guess what? She beat it! Stephanie is now cancer-free and embracing her next chapter with courage and joy. On May 19, 2025, she’ll undergo breast reconstruction surgery—an important step in her healing journey. Stephanie isn’t scared about the procedure—she’s actually excited! But, she and her family are a little nervous about the six-week recovery that follows. She won’t be able to drive, walk much, or even sleep in a bed (recliner life, here she comes!). For someone who’s always on the go and loves living life to the fullest, being still for that long will be a challenge. That’s where you come in. We’ve created this page so her amazing community can help lift her up during recovery—whether it's with a meal, a snack, a visit, a gift card, a funny movie night, or any other thoughtful way to brighten her days. Your kindness will make all the difference. Thank you for being part of Stephanie’s “Recliner Diner”—we’re so grateful for you!
