Domestic Violence Survivor: Single mom

Tacoma, WA

Story

I am a single mom raising a small child. I am finally out of the abusive relationship that has been going on for a long time. With no family in the greater Tacoma Area I am feeling very isolated in terms of support right now. When my husband was arrested a few days before our son’s 2nd birthday he decided he was not financially obligated to provide any assistance until court ordered. That process takes a long time. Right now I am most stressed about paying rent and having a roof for my son and I. So far I have managed to pay November rent and December and January’s rent is approaching, we also need help toward bills ($40 heat bill due Dec 26th). Currently I am working toward January’s rent. We did recently receive an EBT food card. What we are most in need of at this time is transportation as our only vehicle was just in a wreck and we are without a vehicle to get to appointments. We also would love to have visitors and nights are hard and lonely so evening times would be nice as well. I am in need of guests, phone calls, meal train etc. It is a very tough time. Hugs and encouragement are always helpful. Right now we don’t have money to do laundry so either picking up laundry from us, or opening your home so that we might be able to do laundry there would also be VERY helpful.

Special Notes

We are on a waiting list for assistance but due to the holidays and the time it takes to process paperwork I have been told it could take til February at the earliest til we get any assistance. We need transportation as we have no vehicle at this time. We are very welcome to visitors. We would really love any support we could get.
