Story
JOY’n us in supporting Shaun Keeney’s Road to Recovery - Please see details below that were written by a close friend of the family. *Be The Joy Foundation has created this fundraiser page to ensure the family receives every cent of generous donations. Only verified non-profits are able to fundraise through GiveButter so Be The Joy’s support of creating & running this campaign will help avoid the high % fees taken from funds raised on other platforms.* "On August 1st, local husband & father, Shaun Keeney, was critically injured in a work accident when he was electrocuted by a 440-volt current and struck by an arc flash. An arc flash is the light and heat produced as part of a type of unexpected, violent electrical short circuit which creates a superheated ball of flame that reaches temperatures between 5,000º - 35,000 º Fahrenheit (3 times hotter than the sun). The blast set his clothes and the building on fire and Shaun suffered severe 2nd and 3rd degree burns to his head, face, neck, chest, arms, and hands. Shaun is expected to remain in the hospital for at least two months and will have to undergo multiple surgeries, skin grafts, and extensive rehabilitation. This tragic event comes just as Shaun and Lauren were preparing to welcome their fourth child, with the baby’s arrival only three weeks away. While they saved and planned for Lauren’s maternity leave, they never could have imagined this horrible accident or anticipated the unexpected out-of-pocket expenses they will incur. With Shaun in the ICU and expected to be in the hospital for at least 2 months and Lauren about to give birth, we wanted to figure out how to best support them. While we can’t do anything to take away Shaun’s pain or ease Lauren’s heavy heart at the thought of delivering their baby without her husband by her side, we can eliminate their fears of not being able to meet their financial obligations or the medical expenses they are going to incur. Although Shaun and Lauren would never want this attention or ask for help financially - they could never have expected to wake up one morning and end up in this situation a few short hours later. Close friends of the family have organized this fundraiser in hopes of allowing Shaun to put all his energy into healing rather than spend one minute worrying about supporting his family and to allow Lauren to care for their new baby and her family without the added burden of financial stress. We hope to wrap the Keeney Family in community love & support. Shaun's recovery time is expected to be over a year long so even the smallest contribution will go so far for them. If you are unable to donate, please consider taking a moment to share this fundraiser page with your friends, family and networks - and please - keep Shaun and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your generosity and kindness."
