Surgery recovery meal train for Lark Lyra Lou Hill

Chicago, IL

Story

Hello beloved community members! On Monday, October 21, I will be undergoing surgery to remove both of my breasts (and nipples!). It’s a coming of age and a rite of passage. I’m excited, nervous, and so grateful to have access to this procedure in a safe and affordable way. What a time to be alive! Thankfully, my surgery costs, pre- and post-op appointments are all covered by Medicaid. However, I still need help getting food and covering the cost of rent and medical supplies. Two close loved ones will be visiting me to assist during the first few weeks, when my mobility will be severely limited. Official recovery time is eight weeks! The first week will be most intense. I will have drains attached to my body and be on a lot of medication. After they remove the drains, I will slowly regain use of my arms, but I won't be able to lift them above my head or pick up anything heavier than 10lb until two months have passed. Will you help me and my caretakers eat during this tender time? I would love to receive meals and messages from loved ones near and far. I will post updates to this page so you can see how I am healing! If you'd like to visit me in person, please check in first so I can assess my energy, and wear a mask when you come by :) thank you! Scroll down to claim a date to provide breakfast or dinner. If you'd like to donate, look for the PayPal and Venmo buttons to the right. I deeply appreciate your love and support during this long-awaited transformation.

Special Notes

I have a gluten intolerance! So I can't eat or drink anything made from wheat, barley or rye. I'm hoping to eat a lot of vegetables and fermented foods. I eat meat, despite the fact that people always think I'm a vegetarian. I would also be very grateful for any gifts of cannabis tinctures, salves or edibles ;) no smoking!
